Pain in the ball of the foot or the area below the toes, especially beneath the big toe is quite a common complaint especially in those who do a lot of walking and on hard surfaces. Among adults, heel pain is the most commonly experienced form of foot pain. The information provided in this website is not intended to be a substitute for medical attention, diagnosis or treatment. This article will explore two conditions of the forefoot which can affect runners.

Some diseases cause thinning of the fatty pad including rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue disorders, and endocrine disease. Excessive or prolonged pressure on the ball-of-the-foot such as that caused by high heeled shoes, walking barefoot, or wearing shoes with thin soles. Feet with high arches, which are usually rigid and don't allow the arch to come down and contact its support. This causes all of the weight to be forced into the ball-of-the-foot, instead of some of the weight being carried by the arch. People with high arches need adequate arch support in addition to metatarsal support. Hammertoes create metatarsal pain when the toes contract and rise up in an effort to grip the ground due to a lack of balanced support from the metatarsals. When metatarsal foot pain strikes, it can seriously disrupt your life. It is very important to tend to the needs of your feet before such occurrences become a problem. Inappropriate footwear can cause chronic foot and ankle pain.

In children and teenagers, anterior hip pain is most likely due to capital femoral epiphysis. As a result of weak growth plate, the upper end of the thigh bone slips off from the ball of the thigh joint, resulting in pain, stiffness and restricted mobility. The front thigh pain is not only restricted to abnormality in the upper or middle spine. While it mainly leads to lower back pain, weakness, anterior thigh pain and numbness are other reported symptoms. Inguinal hernias and herniation in the femoral region are also responsible for causing front thigh pain and inner thigh pain. In addition, there are several factors that may contribute to pain in the anterior thigh. Problems like femoral nerve irritation, femoral neck stress fracture, foot pronation, meralgia paresthetica, osteoarthritis, posterior longitudinal ligament stress, ilium hypomobile dysfunction, etc. The treatment for frontal thigh pain solely depends on what causes the problem. Yes, it could be from the shoes.

Welcome to the Footcare Express Resource Center providing information on foot care, foot conditions, custom orthotics, foot orthotics and more! High impact movement such as running, aerobics or jumping can cause injury to the lower leg and foot area resulting in conditions such as plantar fasciitis or calf muscle strain. The plantar fascia is a band of tissue running across the bottom of the foot. Injury to this portion of the foot causes inflammation and pain that radiates up the leg over time. Tearing or rupture of the calf muscle from high impact activity can also cause intense pain.

Rarely is surgery needed, but if all conservative treatments are unsuccessful and you are still in severe pain, then it might be necessary. Podiatrists need to have expertise in orthopedics, radiology, general problems of the foot, and surgery. In addition to Morton's Neuroma, our practice treats problems of the foot and ankle including Heel Pain, Bunions, Ingrown Nails, Warts, Nail Fungus and Wounds
. We use advanced techniques such as Shockwave, Platelet Rich Plasma Injection (PRP) and Laser Nail Fungus treatments.

Usually the metatarsal head that is taking the greatest weight is under excess stress during walking and the plantar plate ligament gives out over time and begins to tear. In mild cases, there may be little to no deformity to the toe that can be seen. A patient may describe the pain as a dull ache or a sharp pain the ball of the foot. It usually only involves one toe at a time, and usually involves the 2nd toe.

If your whole foot is painful, heavy and swollen, it may be a sign of oedema Oedema is a build-up of fluid (mainly water) in the body's tissues, causing swelling to occur in the affected area. Foot pain can sometimes be caused by an object that has become embedded in the foot. It may therefore be worth considering whether you have stepped on something sharp with bare feet and examining your foot for a wound. If you do a lot of high-impact sports, such as long-distance running or basketball, the cause of your painful and swollen foot may be a small crack in one of the bones of your foot. The fracture area will be tender to touch and the skin may be bruised. You should stop all activity immediately and avoid putting weight on your foot until you see a doctor. I've suffered ages from shin splints/aching legs/heel pain. I have a nasty case of sesamoiditis and turf toe.
